Shrubs are the basis not only in the decoration of city parks and squares, they often decorate household plots and summer cottages. Buddley is one of the most popular plants in this regard. Particularly common in landscaping is the view of Buddley David.
But there are other Buddhas that deserve our attention. For example, a bud budleya is a leafy one - very beautiful, but at the same time a shrub that is undemanding to growing conditions and care. Unfortunately, this species is far from being as popular as other buddles, and in order to rectify this situation, we will tell you about what the buddha leaf foliage is and what care it requires.
Video about buddley
I want to tell you about a plant that you do not often see not only in the areas of amateur gardeners, but also in botanical gardens. Imagine how I was amazed when, walking Zaporozhye at the beginning of summer, I discovered several such wonderful bushes in one of the parks. This plant is called buddleya. It’s not only the David buddha, widespread in our gardens and which has already become a plant familiar to us, but the regular buddha, who comes from the northwestern regions of China, who has mastered well in the climatic conditions of Ukraine.
What is this plant like? A powerful bush with a height and diameter of about 3 m, and this spherical shape of the crown of the buddley is natural, it is not even necessary to trim it specially. The buddley leaves are long, lanceolate. On top, they are saturated green in color, and the lower side is a grayish tint, which in total gives the foliage a light green color. In summer, the branches of the bush are densely covered with pretty lilac flowers and resemble garlands. Flowering lasts about a month.
The buddha bush of the next leaf looks amazing. I could not pass by and cut the cuttings, which were well rooted. Now I have 3 seedlings. This plant is extremely unpretentious to the composition of the soil and will not grow only on strongly acidic soils. And slightly alkaline, neutral and slightly acidic soils suit him. Budleya is also not demanding on fertility, moreover, it withstands frosts down to -25 ⁰C. I found on the Internet information that the buddley was able to survive a short-term drop in temperature even to -35 ⁰C.
Planting and wake-up care - all the subtleties of growing
The bud buddy buds of the next leaf are laid on the shoots of last year, so it is very important that these shoots do not freeze. If frost damages them, the plant, of course, will not die and will sprout new shoots, but the flowering will not be so plentiful, or maybe this year it will not be at all. It is amazing that the buddles growing in our city parks most likely do not receive any care, but at the same time they bloom beautifully and, apparently, no pests and diseases disturb them.
Caring for a buddha leaf
Buddley grows fast. Its vegetation starts in early May, and ends in October, closer to frost. And although a buddley is undemanding to the nutrition of the soil, if it is regularly fed and watered, it will grow faster, its flowering will be more magnificent and even the color of the flowers will be more saturated. In general, she will look much better.
The only requirement of the buddley is planting in the place where the plant will be lit by the sun from all sides. If there is insufficient lighting, that is, the buddha will grow in thickened plantings, the lower part of the bush can be exposed. To all other conditions, the plant is indifferent, but it is very attractive and promising for the low-maintenance garden that I create.
Shelter for the winter
As for wintering, the only thing that seedlings may need in the first year after planting is mulching the surface around them and maybe some light shelter from spruce branches or from some cut flowers that have already served their purpose. You can cover them with vegetable tops.
What covering material to choose
It is also recommended to prune wilted flowers . By removing them, you stimulate the formation and development of new kidneys for the next year. In addition, these faded and browned flowers do not look very attractive, so from an aesthetic point of view, it is better to trim them.
Propagation of buddha by ordinary leaf cuttings
This unpretentious and highly decorative plant I decided to grow on my site. A bud leaf bud propagates simply: cut the cuttings, leave no more than 2 top pairs of leaves on them and put the cuttings in the cuttings under the cap. All my cuttings took root. When it was hot, they dried out a little, but quickly recovered and look beautiful.
Transplanting seedlings in open ground
Today I will plant two seedlings in a special place: on a fork in garden paths , on either side of the ginkgo biloba that I have already planted. When you plan to plant a particular plant, it is very important to consider how large it will be when it grows. Therefore, I retreated 1.75 m from the paths, so that later, when the buddley grows, and this, I think, will happen in three or four years, it does not interfere with walking on the paths.
Keep in mind that the buddha leaves does not like transplants, because it very quickly forms powerful, but at the same time fragile roots, which when digging up are easily damaged. Large plants need to be planted with a carefully thought-out plan in mind. I did not sleep for several nights, imagining how everything would look.
There is nothing special to tell about the landing: the pits have been dug up and filled with a loose fertile mixture of compost and garden soil. Now I will carefully cut the glasses with seedlings, plant the cuttings, be sure to polish them properly and mulch the surface.
I will plant a buddha and wait for it to become big and beautiful.
